About our Company

In 1980 Myrl Davies formed Earthworm Excavating. The Zweck brothers had formed Zweck Excavating around the same time. The two construction companies would often help each other out on various jobs. In 1982 they formed a partnership, Earthworm Zweck Excavating. In 1984 they changed their name to E-Z Excavating and in 1991 were incorporated. Now known as E-Z Excavating!

In 2001/2002 Mr. J. Zweck went to work on the family farm. He remained a partner in the business until Mr. D. Zweck left the company in 2003 to pursue other options. Myrl purchased the Zweck brother’s portion of the company with the help of his family. He was the sole owner until his passing in May of 2019. At that time, Peggy Davies took over as President/Sole Owner of E-Z Excavating, Inc.

Peggy Davies Headshot

Peggy Davies

President

Peggy Davies, President of E-Z Excavating, Inc. started working for the company in 2006. She attended Chadron State College. Peggy married Myrl Davies in 1973 which started their lifelong path into the construction business. They came to Longmont for work, Myrl worked for Cap Construction and Peggy did several small jobs before working for K-Mart. Peggy’s first jobs were babysitting, lawn mowing, working in the beets fields, and working at The Corner Drive In as a waitress/cook/dishwasher for .25 per hour. While Peggy may have officially started working for E-Z Excavating in 2006 she has always been involved in all aspects of construction life. She came in with an insurance background which made her the perfect fit for handling our insurance claims, assisting with our insurance renewals, and helped manage our safety program, which included the monthly safety meetings. She handled all mail, incoming and outgoing as well as processing account payable invoices. She completed her certification in Stormwater Management and BMP Installation. She handled all paperwork for stormwater permits and did jobsite stormwater and safety inspections. Over the years she did landscape design, installation, and upkeep for our current property. During the recession she took on office cleaning duties. Due to Peggy’s love for animals she is a compassionate caretaker of her domestic and feral animals. Peggy’s favorite part of working at E-Z Excavating is getting to visit job sites and see the project progress from start to finish. It is always rewarding for her to visit with our employees, whom she finds to be the best employees in the construction business. Peggy always enjoys handing our t-shirts/sweatshirts, paychecks and cooking for our weekly summer barbecues. This has been a great way to get to know all our employees over the years. Myrl and Peggy’s motto is “don’t ask someone to do a job that you wouldn’t do yourself.” Outside of work she loves gardening, doing needlework projects, quilting, acrylic painting, and being involved in her grandkid’s activities. She feels fortunate to be able to work as well as vacation with her family.

Vice President of Project Management

Nic Tiller is our Vice President of Project Management. He received his certificate in Welding from Warren Occupational Center. He has OSHA 10 General Industry Training and has completed Leadership Development and Situational Leadership I & II at Central Community College, Kearney Nebraska. He came to E-Z Excavating, Inc. in 2016 with a lot of experience from several different fields. He also has experience in commercial painting, managing different construction divisions including structural and cosmetic residential repair, precast wall; sales; staining; manufacturing, construction light and heater manufacturing; purchasing agent, estimator, project manager, master scheduler, and office manager at precast manufacturer. Nic enjoys being a part of a project or grand plan. The ability to say we built that project is satisfying to him. It is a small world and he feels it is important to maintain great honest relationships. It is satisfying to see other people light up with excitement when the finished product comes together. His dad was his inspiration and always said “If you are doing what you are supposed to be doing you have nothing to worry about.” Outside of work Nic enjoys spending time with his wife and kids and experimenting with new recipes on his Traeger. Jason Messervy Headshot

Jason Messervy

Pipe Division Superintendent

Jason Messervy is our Pipe Division Superintendent. He has been employed by E-Z Excavating, Inc. since 1994. He has done almost every field job we have starting as a pipelayer. He moved into a top of ditch labor job, but that was nothing new for him as lots of times he would do both pipelayer and top of ditch at the same time. After several years being a laborer, he learned how to run an excavator packing for our mainline pipe jobs which quickly moved into digging services and then onto mainline. He spent many years digging before becoming one of our Supervisors. The day he became a supervisor he was in the middle of the street digging in Lafayette, replacing valves when his supervisor came up to him. He was asked to step out of the machine and bring your keys. He was told you’re a boss now go back to the shop and pick up the plans for your next job. He enjoys working for E-Z Excavating and the contractors we work for. He is known for getting things done with great accuracy and speed, which has built the great relationships he has with our customers, vendors, and cities.  He is well respected among most city inspectors and truly values his great working relationship with them. He loves seeing jobs get done and the change to the landscape of the area he works in. He has led his crew through some of our more challenging jobs. The jobs that are deeper, wetter, and harder than most. That is a long way from his first job as a buss boy for a local restaurant. His inspiration was his father-in-law, Myrl Davies who always used to tell him “It’s just dirt, we can fix it” and “Any decision is better than no decision.”  Outside of work he can be found hanging out with his family, which he is immensely proud of.

Patrick has a great attitude and works hard to keep our street jobs safe. He makes it possible for us to complete several difficult projects more quickly and efficiently than our competition. We have found a niche in doing difficult jobs in the street. The traffic control is one of the most important elements of these projects. He can handle many different traffic control duties including estimating, design and implementation of traffic control plans, manages flaggers, and can operate a Truck Mounted Attenuator.
